Are There Different Kinds of Ghosts?

We often use the term “ghosts” in general to mean an spirit that is caught in between this plane of existence and the next, but in reality there are different types and they behave very differently.
When speaking of ghosts there are actually three types: Earthbound Spirits, Ghosts, and Poltergeists.

It should be mentioned that this is our way of classifying them and other intuitives may have other names or categories.

When a life ends and a soul leave the body but refuses to abandon the person it was stay in this plane of existence instead of moving on to the next.  This is the most common form of “ghost” and it is called an Earthbound Spirits (ES).  ES are very confused and their current condition is very hazy to them.  They don’t realize that they’re no longer living and they randomly wander but tend to stay very near the people that they knew and the places where they lived. An ES is almost trapped by the life they used to have and may try to communicate if it gets the chance but it is often unsuccessful.

An ES cannot draw energy from the Divine Source so in order to continue existing it must find energy to tap into, which means the living.  An ES will follow or stalk the people that it knew in its life to and draw energy from them which is actually harmful for both the ES and the person.  An ES does not draw energy from its loved ones to harm them; it simply has no choice if it wants to survive.

An ES is very weak and it cannot interact with the physical world in any way and often the only way you’d know an ES was near you is if you started to feel weak or run down.  However, an ES that has been around long enough will eventually start to learn how to pull more and more energy from its surroundings and become a full-fledged ghost.

While an ES is weak and has to draw energy from its loved ones, at some point it learns on its own, or maybe its loved ones start to die off forcing it to learn, to draw energy from its surroundings instead.  Since a ghost is able to draw energy from its surrounds, it can go wherever it chooses.  With a measure of independence the ghost will wander and only attach to a person or place if it feels a big connection with them.  When a ghost feels a connection to a person or place it often will stay where it feels comfortable.

While an ES sticks close to the people and places it knew from life a ghost has the ability to freely roam where it will, and even though it cannot interact with the physical world or move objects it may be able to materialize for a brief moment so it may be seen.

A ghost is an ES who has been here a long time, perhaps centuries.  While an ES believes it is still alive a ghost has been around so long that it has forgotten.  If a spiritual being came to find the soul and escort it to the next plane of existence an ES would most likely freely go while a ghost, who has forgotten it was ever more than a ghost, may have to be convinced.

It a ghost is around long enough it will learn more and develop to the point where it can interact with the physical world and at that point it become a poltergeist.  A poltergeist has learned to manipulate the energy around it and it can move objects, make sounds, speak, and in some cases it can physically harm a living person.

A poltergeist that lives in a home where people also live will often play games and hide objects from them.  Sometimes it will physically move the object and sometimes it will cloud the person’s mind so it cannot see the object that is right in front of their face.  A comment we often get when we remove a poltergeist from a home is that suddenly all these objects turn up that have been missing for a long time and some of them suddenly turn up right where they were supposed to be. For example, a watch that was left on the nightstand and has been missing for months suddenly reappears on the nightstand exactly where it was left, because it never actually moved.  Poltergeists have shown a special interest in bright shiny objects like jewelry.

While ES draw their energy from loved ones and a ghost draws their energy from their surroundings and the living that they hang around, a poltergeist has found out how to feed off of human emotion.  When a person gets upset, angry, or scared they release a very negative energy that is very powerful and it is that energy that a poltergeist loves the most.  This is why poltergeists enjoy messing with people and love to scare them.  The more they get a person to react the more energy the get to feed on.

While some poltergeists seem harmless others are outright vicious.  However they act, if you are living with ES, ghost, or poltergeists is it’s never a good idea to just live with them.  Living with these entities can be very draining and cause you to become confused, disorganized, lazy, or even very sick.  Plus, there is often an emotional toll to living with these beings.
